Album: Randomness

Have you ever been driving through the mountains on your way to your parents' cabin in Montana, when your back wheels hydroplane on slush and your car swings around and you get buried in a 3 foot snow bank, while saying aloud, "We're okay, we're okay", and simultaneously thinking, "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit"?

I have.

On a related note: snow removal services in Medicine Hat suck. I could probably get the streets clean faster with a toothbrush and some salty toothpaste. Also, all aforementioned service employees apparently took 3 weeks off for Christmas. Gary AND Jack off.

There is a growing terrorist threat in the world.

It is an extremist group that has been killing thousands in the name of what they think is good. Recently they have been using propaganda and manipulation tricks to gather thousands of new recruits to their cause. Their mission is simply 'victory' whatever that means to them, and they won't stop until they get it. They have infiltrated foreign countries and have secret societies established to spy on everything we do. They have a complete disregard for life. As the death toll rises, they simply become more determined to be victorious. They're relentless and unflinching. Vengeful and bloodthirsty.

And their leader is. G W Bush.

Profound

I came across this quote today:

I find people have a tendency to ally themselves with a certain bit of media or subsection of culture, they'll then defend any show, movie, or book that falls into this subsection even though they realize that it isn't very good. Conversely they'll denigrate anything that falls into categories that they don't like, regardless of its quality. I know I've often found myself wrestling with these very tendencies. (Slashdot)

I find it an incredibly accurate observation, that has been repeated many many times. Just take a moment, and recall a few obvious ones.

XBOX vs PlayStation
Apple vs Microsoft
OpenSource vs not
GMC vs Ford

etc etc etc.

An un-thought-of effect
Of sitting so strange
Was the lack of flow
Of blood to my brain.

At that moment of fate
That I loved so dear
Consciousness left me
And I fell on my ear.

Have you ever had one of those moments? You know, you're somewhere... doesn't really matter where... minding your own business, and out of the blue, you see a woman.

At first, you notice her beauty. Then, after a very short moment - for example, shortly after she screams at someone on her cellphone, or powders her nose because she saw a somewhat reflective surface, or refinishes her fingernail because it didn't look just right - you say to yourself: maintenance.

That's it. Just maintenance. No 'Well, maybe', or 'I could live with that'. Just... maintenance.
